Impaired Driver Program

The Impaired Driver Program (IDP) educates those convicted of driving while impaired, providing tools for self-assessment and offering early intervention services and referrals for further evaluation and treatment. IDP is operated in conjunction with the NYS Dept. of Motor Vehicles.

Course content includes traffic safety as well as social, medical, and legal problems caused by alcohol and drug abuse. All students must attend seven weekly classroom sessions, for a total of 16 contact hours. Conditional licenses are granted solely to motorists enrolled in such a program. Additionally, recent legislation mandates IDP participation for all plea bargain cases.
